Welcome to the Titan Cricket Club Home Page

By English standards, Titan CC is a youngster. Originally founded in 1984, it was formed to compete in a newly created industrial cricket league in Calgary, which has a surprisingly long, although somewhat obscure, connection with the game.

During the early 1980's, Calgary, in its role as the centre of Canada's oil and gas industry, had seen an influx of technical staff from both Britain and many parts of the Commonwealth including India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies. As a result, a number of people with knowledge and experience of the game became available and a mid-week league was formed to augment the existing weekend games.

Titan CC emerged from this and took its name from its original sponsor, Titan Projects Ltd., a consulting and engineering company located in Calgary.

Over the ensuing seasons following its inception, Titan met with some significant success without ever abandoning its original credo for not taking the game too seriously and recognising the importance of post-match beer - three league titles during that period, together with several second place finishes.

Sadly, the league disbanded in 1996, leaving Titan to survive on a diet of occasional friendly games. Bloodied, but not bowed, the members of Titan have maintained their enthusiasm for the game, some playing in the weekend league. The mid-week league has happily been revived this year (2002) and will provide Titan players with valued practice.

Despite the fairly advanced years of some of our players, Titan never asks for nor gives any quarter. Titans are determined to give a good account of themselves, both on and off the pitch, but above all enjoy cricket and the camaraderie that goes with it.
